Are there particular tests that we must take to join the program?

We administer a written and a physical test to applicants prior to acceptance into the program. Once accepted a drug test is required.

No. You will be given a date to come back and take the aptitude test when you pick up your application.

How do I join Local 40 & 361 and when are applications given out?

Applications are given out bi-annually in the Spring. We recommend that potential applicants return to our website in March for details.

How do we get selected for admission?

After taking an aptitude test, all applicants will be in rank order depending on their scores from the test. The top scorers of the test will come back to take a physical test. If they pass the physical test they will be accepted into our program and be given a drug test. The very top qualifiers (the # of people depends on the availability of work) will start in August 2008.

How long is this program?

The Apprentice program is a 3 year program. First and Second year students attend classes on Tuesday & Wednesday nights from 5:00 - 7:00pm. Third year students attend class one night a week (either Tuesday or Wednesday) from 4:30 - 8:30pm. All students will attend occasional Saturday classes.

How will we find work as an Ironworker?

What should I study for to prepare for the aptitude exam? Are there any books I can purchase?

This year's aptitude exam will be slightly different from the previous examinations that we have given. The old study material is still useful toward your future as an Ironworker, but does not apply to this test.

10th grade level Math (Geometry, Algebra, etc.) is still a portion of the test so you would need either a G.E.D. review guide or a 10th grade Regents study guide.

The other section of the test is called a Cognitive Ability portion. It tests your ability to learn certain job functions and how quickly you can pick it up. Since it's a general intelligence test, there is no material available for studying.

Where do we pick up applications?

At our Training Facility at 35-23 36th St. Astoria NY, 11106. Click here for a map.
